Dress Code

DRESS CODE/GUIDELINES

The following statement of Dress Code guidelines is presented to parents and/or legal guardians to delineate school expectations and for informational purposes:

  • It is not the intention of these guidelines to interfere with the prerogative of students or parents; however, it is clearly recognized that in order for an environment, which is conducive to learning to exist, it must be free of all unnecessary distractions. Therefore, it is imperative that student dress promote modesty, health, comfort, and safety.
  • All students are expected to wear clothing appropriate to the occasion; extreme or ostentatious clothing and/or appearance will not be tolerated.

Disciplinary Consequences for Dress Code Violations*

First Offense: Parent Notification

Second Offense: Referral with Verbal Warning

Third Offense: Administrative Detention

Fourth Offense: ISS

Future Offenses: Student will be deemed engaging in defiant behavior and consequences will be imposed as appropriate.

*Administration will determine all dress code violations. The student will be denied entrance to class and will report to ISS until the situation is corrected.

Unacceptable dress or appearance includes, but is not limited to:

HEADGEAR

No hats sweat towels, nylon stockings, stocking caps, hoods, facemasks, skull chains, skullcaps, dew rags, visors, sunglasses or any form of headgear.

SHIRTS, TOPS, AND BLOUSES

No tank tops are permitted at Landstown Middle School. Every shirt/top that is worn by students, males and females, must cover the shoulder. No halter tops, tube tops, racer back/t-back tops, strapless dresses, spaghetti strap tops or dresses, backless dresses, bare midriffs, fishnet or sheer see-through tops, lace tops, tops or dresses with plunging necklines, tight or revealing clothing.

SHORTS, PANTS, SKIRTS, AND DRESSES

  • No skirts or dresses that rise above fingertip in length.
  • All shorts must have a minimum of a 4 inch inseam.
  • No sleepwear including pajamas.
  • No apparel specifically designed as beachwear.
  • No pant legs or pants worn below the waist or hip line.
  • No leggings, jeggings, or yoga/knit pants may be worn unless an outer garment, that meets school dress code, is worn on top, i.e. fingertip length. Fishnet or lace leggings of any type are not permitted.
  • Pants with holes are not permitted if the holes are located above fingertip length, unless leggings are worn beneath the pants.

FOOTWEAR

No bedroom slippers, clown or oversized shoes. It is recommended that students refrain from wearing flip flops, open toed and/or backless footwear for safety purposes.

CLOTHING AND APPEARANCE

  • No clothing that advertises alcohol, illegal substances, weapons, depicts lewd or suggestive graphics, displays offensive or obscene language, has handwritten messages or statements, and/or is gang related.
  • No ostentatious hair color, style, design or makeup color or application.

JEWELRY APPAREL

No jewelry that may create or present a hazard to a student’s safety may be worn. This includes but is not limited to chains, handcuffs, multi-finger rings, overly large earrings or necklaces or other form of jewelry that may present a hazard to student safety and the learning environment.
